If there’s one error I make over and over when I go out to forage, it’s that I’m not prepared.
I’ll forget my gloves when I want to forage stinging nettle. Or I don’t have a knife or pruners.
And my camera, I’m always forgetting my camera. And a book for identifying plants is left back home on my dining room table.
This morning I went out specifically for mullein leaves and flowers to infuse in oil and dehydrate. I had a bag for the leaves, a jar for collecting the delicate flowers, and scissors to cut the leaves. Everything I needed to collect the mullein.
But I found ripe raspberries, and yarrow, blue vervain, St. John’s wort and more.
And how do you collect ripe raspberries in a bag that is filled with mullein leaves and yarrow?
So, tomorrow I’ll go back and hopefully I’ll be better prepared.
Probably not.
