One of my favorite Christmas traditions is making ornaments for friends and family. This year, I wanted to make the ornaments from something I had recycled.
I thought that aluminum cans would be fun to use, but we do not buy anything in aluminum. I asked around and several friends quickly provided me with the raw material I needed.
The cans are very easy to cut with regular scissors and after cutting, aren’t as sharp as I guessed they would be. For most of the ornaments, I lightly sanded the aluminum first because I preferred a toned down color.
Simply trace your pattern onto the flattened can, and cut.
I played around with several shapes and used super glue to glue the shapes together as needed. I hope you enjoy my creations, and will let your creativity flow as you create your own ornaments from upcycled aluminum cans.
Thank you for visiting Learning And Yearning. May "the LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." Num 6:24-26

Goodness! These are so cool! I wish I lived close to you – something tells me, we would have a lot of fun together. I know we would spend hours chatting. 🙂 Happy I can get to know you a little bit through the internet. My favorite is the silver snowflake. Merry Christmas Susan!

Nicole, I couldn’t agree more. I KNOW we would get along famously. We really do have so much in common – except perhaps our taste in one particular book ;). Best of all, we are sisters in Christ!

I really like the shapes.. Are the ornaments that have different colors on them from the design on the outside of the cans – they don’t seem painted or a reflection? Did you draw the shapes yourself? Very original! Thanks for sharing your completed project!

Hi Lois!! All the colors you see are from the cans. There are also some words and UPC symbols. I did sand some of them lightly because I wanted a more muted color. I drew all but the snowflake myself. For that, I used a friend’s die cut machine that is typically used with card stock for scrap-booking. Thanks for your encouragement!

My favorite is the angel – the colors & shape are perfect & the way you cut the predominantly red ornament really uses the colors – as if it was designed for an ornament. –
pretty cool!

Glad that you enjoyed them. I love that they are made from some else’s trash!
