I don’t often write about babies here on my blog, but I’m passionate about real food and real nutrition and I genuinely care about the health of those I love. I want to see them eating the best food possible, whether it’s from my garden, a local farm, or purchased at the grocery store. And if I have a chance to encourage a young woman before she gets pregnant, or a new mom wondering how to feed her baby, I’m excited to do that.
When I saw that Kristen Michaelis of Food Renegade had written a new book, Beautiful Babies, I quickly requested a digital copy of the book to peruse. This book is fantastic, and it’s not just for those of child bearing age. I found it fascinating, with nutritional information relevant to all of us. But, if you are suffering from infertility, pregnant, or a new mom, this book is a must read.
Joel Salatin, a hero of the sustainable food movement, wrote the forward and had this to say about Beautiful Babies:
“I find Kristen’s feisty spirit and mischievous humor both empowering and liberating. As a dad of two, husband of one, and grandfather of three, I covet these historically proven and normal principles for every family on earth. I wish this book had been around when my wife, Teresa, and I were starting our family.”
In the first part of Beautiful Babies, you will learn about the nutrient-rich diets that fertile populations around the world ate when preparing their bodies to conceive and give birth. There is a growing infertility epidemic in our country (it’s touched my family). In 2007, a team of researchers at Harvard University found that women who consumed skim milk and low-fat dairy had 85% higher infertility rates than women who consumed whole-fat dairy. Kristen shows us what foods young women need so that their bodies can conceive.
You will learn the importance of fetal nutrition for your child, how to avoid morning sickness and stretch marks, and how to minimize other pregnancy pitfalls with the right nutrition. Her 256 page book has 15 chapters including:
- Why Nutrition Matters
- Taking Care of the Gut
- Eating for Fertility and Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding and Homemade Formulas
- Baby’s First Foods
Part Two of her book includes 5 chapters full of recipes of all types.
Disclaimer: I’m an Amazon affiliate and if you pre-order Beautiful Babies from the links here in my post, I make a little under a dollar. I’m obviously not getting rich on this. I’m genuinely excited about the book and was so amazed that you can get both the physical book and the online class for $16.44 that I just wanted to let you know.
