But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. Job 12: 7 – 10
Sometimes I Just Need Out
The older I get, the more of a hermit I’m becoming. My life lately has been pretty confined to my garden and my kitchen. Harvesting, cooking, preserving. Repeat.
All this alone time, and all this time in my kitchen has been putting cobwebs in my head. I woke up this morning and cut up a pastured chicken to brine for dinner and I knew I couldn’t handle one more day of this. I needed out.
For me, the gift of Creation is a balm to my body and soul. The weather has been beautiful with a touch of autumn in the air. The local state park was calling my name. It was gorgeous and was the broom I needed to reach those corners where all the cobwebs were stuck.
How about you? Do you get cobwebs in your head? What’s your favorite remedy?
Thank you for visiting Learning And Yearning. May "the LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." Num 6:24-26

I can never get enough time outside, assuming the weather is nice. I love spending time in the woods, listening to water features, watching birds, doing and enjoying landscape beauty, and reflecting on the awesome Creator of it all.

This time of year can be hard for me; the more I garden the more time I have to spend in the kitchen. It’s not my top favorite thing to do!

I like being a hermit, but I need to get out at times too. I was going to take a book and sit on the dock this year and just reflect and enjoy. Didn’t happen. I do enjoy a lunch with a friend, junkin or greenhouses. Love this post, made me stop and think!

Thanks, Jonni. I haven’t been “junkin” in forever. Sounds like fun!

You are right Susan, they are cobwebs. And I’m missing my broom. Such beautiful photos, the autumn colors are going to be stunning where you are!
Thank you for this.

Hope you can get away from your routine, Ashley, and do something different!

I completely understand. I spend more time in the kitchen now preserving. I would rather be outside. I listen to upbeat music while in the kitchen to help with the yearnings to be outside.
Your pictures are so amazing. Love the inspiration.

Nice post with beautiful photos. This really resonated with me, as my favorite places to go to get back to nature are our state parks. The fall weather is only just beginning to enter here in the southeast, and I cannot wait to get back outside! BTW, I totally identify with the “hermit” thing, too. — Visiting from the Homestead Barn Hop.

It’s nice to know I’m not alone – when I’m alone. 😉
