Is there a more invigorating time of year than fall? The crisp air, sunny skies, and vibrant colors just beg you to come out and play.
A new hiking trail, built by the Countryside Conservancy, just opened in our area. Called The Trolley Trail, it runs approximately 3 miles from Clarks Summit, to Dalton, PA. The trail runs along an old trolley line and the plan is to extend it for 14 miles.
Mike and I walked the 3 miles the other afternoon and we’re just in love with it. The woods are beautiful and full of trees we don’t see everyday. And we found lots to forage; we definitely plan to hike it often, and eagerly look forward to each new addition.
The second we stepped onto the trail, we could feel the stresses of the day melt away.
There are several hickory trees in the area, but we only found a few nuts; we did, however, see several large, flat rocks covered in empty shells. The squirrels apparently use these rocks as tables.
It was really fun, and eye-opening, to be in an area whose roads we travel daily, and to find so many unexpected treats. I’d love to learn more about these ruins.
The drops of water on the mullein looked like ice on a fuzzy blanket, but the weather was actually quite delightful.
Another few weeks, and these apples will be sweet and delicious.
I think I was especially delighted by the beech trees. I don’t think I’ve ever seen beech as large as some of these trees. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a good shot of the trees.
I’ve been looking for black walnuts, so I was happy to find a great tree. We were able to fill a bag with them.
Just on the other side of the bridge is where the trails ends.
What are you doing to enjoy fall this year?
Thank you for visiting Learning And Yearning. May "the LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." Num 6:24-26

Hi Susan! I am a graphic artist–graduated from Marywood University, native of Dalton, PA. I am working on putting together a small illustrated book of hikes around North East Pennsylvania. I was wondering if you would allow me to use one of your photos for reference in an illustration for the Clarks Summit Trolley Trail. I am interested in the one of the bridge. Normally, I would go take a photo myself, but I am currently in the state of Montana for the summer. I have attached a web link to the current version of the book so you can see what I will be using it for. Please let me know if you are willing to allow me to use it or even if not.
Thank you. I appreciate your consideration.

Hi Kelsey, yes, you may certainly use the photo as long as you give credit to LearningAndYearning. Sounds like a great book!
